Tap symbols on the board to build a message, then tap Speak. The sentence starters and Quick Phrases panels hold common messages, and the Type tab is a full keyboard with word prediction for spellers. Everything speaks with the same voice, instantly, with no internet needed.

Yes. Open Settings (the gear) and use Edit mode to change any button's word, symbol, and color, add new words and folders, or hide buttons. Personal photos, or a photo taken on the spot, can be symbols. Buttons never move as vocabulary grows, so motor patterns stay safe.

Two settings, both in Settings, then Layout. "Words to show" starts the board at First words (about a dozen), then Combining, then Everything: words appear in their final places as the level goes up, so nothing learned has to be relearned. "Button size" is separate: the standard grid suits most people, and bigger buttons are there for hands and eyes that need them, not for beginners.

Settings, then Speaking, then Pronunciations: type the word and how to say it. It applies everywhere the word is spoken, including single taps.

Settings, then Voice, then Create a personal voice. Read the short on-screen passage aloud; about eight seconds is enough. Dawn builds the voice on the device in a few seconds, and the recording never leaves it. Only clone a voice with the person's permission; for a child, a parent or guardian decides.

Usually, yes. Dawn cleans the audio and picks the strongest stretch of the recording automatically. If the result is not right, the Voice Studio can also match your recording to the nearest of the built-in voices, and you can shape pitch and age from there.

Recording whole phrases in your own natural delivery, saved and played back exactly as spoken. The Record button sits with the banked messages in the Phrases view. Many people preserve the phrases that matter most this way, alongside a created voice for everything else.

Yes. Row and column or linear scanning, one or two switches, with adjustable timing, is in Settings under Access. Scanning covers the board, the keyboard, phrases, the message window, and the view switcher. Auditory scanning can speak each highlighted item or click. Switch keys are remappable; Space and Enter always select. Dawn also works with VoiceOver and Dynamic Type.

Lock editing and Settings is offered during setup and is on by default. Opening Settings or Edit then asks a quick arithmetic question. Change it anytime in Settings under Partner Tools.

Settings offers a one-tap full backup: a single file containing boards, edits, personal voices, banked messages, and photos. Save it wherever you choose, such as the Files app or your own iCloud Drive. Before any restore, Dawn saves a safety copy of the current data to Files, so a restore can never lose what was made since.

Yes. Settings, then Profile, creates a profile per person with its own boards, voices, recordings, and history. Switching is two taps.

Dawn imports and exports Open Board Format files (.obf and .obz), which most major AAC systems support.

Nothing. No account, no analytics, no server. Words, recordings, and voices stay on the device. This support form is the one exception: what you type here is stored on our own support desk so we can answer you. The full policy is short and readable: privacy policy.

Dawn is a subscription, yearly or weekly, each with a free trial, billed by Apple through the App Store. One subscription covers iPhone and iPad. Manage or cancel anytime in Settings, then your Apple Account, then Subscriptions.

Tap Restore Purchases on that screen while signed into the same Apple Account. Your subscription comes back immediately.

Apple handles all billing, so refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something in the app pushed you to a refund, we would genuinely like to hear what it was.
